What does it mean to be a maker?
I meet a lot of makers and test as well. By makers, I meet marketers and founders. They are primarily shy, especially those who try a lot.
Shy is not the right word. Humble.
At a recent meeting, a CEO of an ex-company I used to work with, a big maker himself, said:
We don't fail enough. To build something of value, we need to fail more often.
Interestingly, he should say that because failure is the actual currency of success. Unfortunately, we greatly value success and don't praise failure enough.
Failure should be cherished. How about making a monument for business failure? That would be something, wouldn't it? A big stone thing in the middle of the city with the names of all the failed businesses. That would give people hope.
But I digress.
The point is that makers need to fail more often to succeed. It's the only way to learn and grow. So next time you fail, don't be too hard on yourself. Remember, you're just doing what all successful people do.
