Sadly, many times our strategies do not succeed and fail during execution📉 . After working with many CEO and Managers, I always see this tenacity to achieve whatever the consequences ( probably because they have some external pressure to do so). However, it is essential to understand when we should pivot our ideas and redo our strategy, goals, and targets 🎯.
Here are four reasons why strategies fail :
🚀 High expectations and misaligned understanding of realities: your strategy might not be able to deliver on its promises. You face external pressure to continue with the goals but setting unrealistic expectations and not seeing results is a sign to review and redo your strategy.
🧠 Not developing your strategy to the fullest: Have you ever considered how your company culture could be affected? Or what are the possible unprecedented consequences? It is easy to develop goals, but a strategy will only stay a dream goal without setting strategic targets and thinking through the action plan and every step of the process.
📚 Not seeing precedents: The best way to develop your strategy fully is to understand the execution of similar and successful strategies. If your strategy has been done before in your industry, I see how other companies have executed it before diving into new territory yourself.
💻 Lack of monitoring and control: I can stress enough the importance of creating feedback loops. You want to understand what you're doing correctly and expand it by measuring your progress against benchmarks or targets regularly.
🔗 Lack of talent: If a strategy requires specialized knowledge and it's important to understand if your company has the talent to achieve it. Getting external consultation and leaning on experts' advice is necessary to understand and have guidance when exploring new territory.
Successfully executing a good strategy is just exceptionally hard. Constant reevaluation of your strategy is necessary, and it is crucial to understand when to take a step back and reevaluate it completely 🔍. That is why marketers and founders I've met reserve at least half a day a week for strategizing. I learned this from Andrei Zinkevich.
