In my work, I meet a lot of agency heads and business gurus. I would not like to be considered one but apparently you need to be a bit more influential so people would consider your advice.
I’m usually a little *too honest, and that is why I tend to attract a certain type of client. I have tried to be the "Yes Man" from Jim Carry's movies, kudos to @Antal Kristof for this wise example, but I also want to make sure I am doing the best work I can for them (which requires a lot of honesty).
During the years, I've made a few small observations.
A lot of marketing agencies and "thought" gurus take people or companies who are not doing so well and give them all kind of advice. They provide tools for how to make more money, bring more sales, increase revenue in their business, meanwhile they also ignore some really important value questions such as:
Why do they want more clients, money?
Do they have a system in place to handle more revenue?
What is the core mission of company and founders (besides making more money)?
Is there a particular value that is missing in their business or causing problems (let's hope their goal isn't only one of those steamy Lamborghinis)?
See the rest in comments :))
