Do you watch Netflix or HBO Go? Do you use Linkedin as a source of inspiration and news? We all do that. Do you know what unites these sources of information? These are all media companies! I can give another example, think of INC, Entrepreneur, Forbes. They all provide us with helpful information that you cannot find somewhere else—a unique view. You visit it from time to time, and therefore its influence grows on you. You don't have millions to spend, but you still want it—a way to grow your influence on potential sales prospects. It is simple to execute, but it will require time; you can be the Forbes/Netflix in your industry. Start with your blog. Please think of how unique it is. Are people able to find what your write about somewhere else? If your blog is closer to stuff you read on medium.com, then it is a good start. If your focus is on getting organic search traffic (SEO), you can spice up your articles with interesting information from subject matter experts. Or write two types of papers, one for Google and one for uniqueness. Start a newsletter where you can send your best industry thought leadership content. Get better at interviewing people. That is a big part of the job when you are a media company - interviews. You will do it first on your own; later, you can hire journalists. And that's it. This is one strong engine that will power up your whole business. Build Netflix for your industry, or someone else will.
