Dear Tinder and Match how many scams do you need to happen on your platform so you take security/privacy seriously?
Are you doing anything? All these ugly stories, don't they hurt your market capitalization?
I am sure your shareholders would not want that in the middle of an upcoming recession.
Everyone and their grandma have already seen the movie about the Tinder - Swindler.
I did not fully believe it until a Tinder scam happened to me.
My story.
I started to use Tinder recently to try online dating. I have invested a few hundred dollars into it and time which I value even more.
I was matched with someone from Germany and we started communicating.
The worst part of this is that the account was verified on Tinder, so a real person was behind it.
Very soon the discussion moved to Whatsapp where in a slow mode I was pre-qualified about my investments and financial situation.
In a week, I had a few soft calls to invest with this person because she is a crypto trader in Munich and has been working for 6 years in the industry.
I could see that this scammer is willing to play the long game and did not mean to do a final push but rather win me over.
In the end, I reported.
To draw a line in the sand.
For me, this is unacceptable behavior from a tech company that makes money on love but does not do enough to keep people on the platform.
Do you think I am going to trust Tinder with my data? with my privacy after this?
Do you think I will stay on the platform after this?
Now a few things that Tinder can do to make me and other millions of people happier. Good marketing cannot fix scams but you can adjust the expectations.
Make a public bank of data where everyone could search and find the scammer, the public should know its heroes. Ideally, all dating apps should unite and have such a bank of data.
Launch some sort of an ambassador program where the most influential power users could report or come up with improvements so the app becomes better and safer for everyone.
Create some sort of newsletter that drives awareness about dating scams and what are some red flags to avoid. With real cases.
Don't sweep it under the rug as if nothing happened.
I am tagging Tinder's C-level leadership in hope that a change will happen. Also, open to an interview on the subject.
p.s. Shortly after this case I was "befriended" by a few Chinese accounts who tried to pull the same thing.
