A #marketer who does it all initially gets fired?
Strangely enough, this happens very often. Throughout my career, I have seen many cases when I was the only marketer on the team and my efficiency started being doubted after things started to settle and market fit was found.
Why does this happen?
😎 When you start as the only marketer on the team, very often you do everything, from designing and printing brochures to adding pages to the website, doing SEO, writing articles, and social media posts.
In about a year, your CEO starts to doubt your ability to execute!?
You ask yourself, why?
Well, setting boundaries!
In many SMBs and also in Platforce, the first and second hires in marketing or sales, get a lot of responsibilities!
Do this, do that, bring this, bring that.
Because you feel enacted to be a yesman or a yeswoman, it often happens that you de-focus from your core responsibilities, which are bringing leads, nurturing them, and transforming random streetwalkers into dear customers in love with your brand.
😑 It also happened to me that people on my team became too pleasing and as a result, they took as a task everything I had thrown their way, and as a result, it was hard to measure their performance.
Damn, guilty as charged! I doubted their efficiency in the first place:)
Since, I have spent now, a decade in marketing, I know that it was my mistake as well.
Loss of focus is a problem for many organizations, especially SMBs, and startups who are going through growth phases.
Don't make this mistake, once you have the budget to create well-defined positions, you can create silos for people to do the best work they can, no need to be a generalist.
