π Multichannel vs. Omnichannel Approach in SaaS π
If you ask me, they are not separate concepts but rather symbiotically interrelated. Where a multichannel strategy is a vital part of the omnichannel approach. π
Why? π€
It all lies in the Dark Funnel - the place where your buyers spend their time, often out of sight. This can be in Slack rooms, podcasts, social media, or other communication channels. You must adopt an omnichannel mindset to reach them effectively in these channels, where all your marketing strategies will lead to the same destination (most probably your website). π―
What sets multichannel apart is that one strategy supports and enhances the others. Thus, you can only have a multichannel approach with an omnichannel mindset. Here are some examples of this in some common social channels for SaaS entrepreneurs. ππ½
Β π― On LinkedIn, when you create a post that will eventually guide your followers elsewhere, place your link in the comments section rather than the post itself. This approach respects the platform's preferences and keeps users engaged, allowing them to explore your page if the content was engaging. πΌ
π― On YouTube, create "shorts" before you launch to create a longer, impactful video. Ultimately, the goal is to give your viewers a sense of expectancy. This content will be interconnected, creating a seamless experience for your audience that will eventually continue with the content of your website. πΉ
π― On Twitter, which tends to be a more tricky platform to pursue promotional content, creating a "platform-specific experience" for your users is essential. My favorite example comes from a brand called DoNotPay. They connected a chatbot to Twitter's API, where users can ask questions and receive instant answers. This keeps the engagement high and allows your customers to know what your product is about. π
π― On podcasts and webinars, engage with your audience by inviting them to a panel discussion or creating a community outside of the event. This creates multiple touchpoints, allowing your audience to engage with your content in various ways. Ultimately if they are interested in becoming your customers, they will all end up reaching out to your main sales channel.
If I can give you only one piece of advice, it would be to embrace the interconnected nature of social channels to foster engagement π€Β Don't limit yourself to just one channel, as your customers will likely discover your content across multiple platforms. π§π₯Β
